Text emphasis

In Zulip, you can make text bold or italic, or cross it out with strikethrough.

Making text bold

Via compose box button

1. Open the compose box.
2. Select the text you want to format.
3. Click the bold () icon at the bottom of the compose box.

Keyboard tip: You can also use Ctrl + B to insert bold formatting.

Via Markdown

1. Open the compose box.
2. To make text bold, use double asterisks (**) around the text: **text**.

Making text italic

Via compose box button

1. Open the compose box.
2. Select the text you want to format.
3. Click the italic () icon at the bottom of the compose box.

Keyboard tip: You can also use Ctrl + I to insert italic formatting.

2. To make text italic, use single asterisks (*) around the text: *text*.

Applying strikethrough formatting

3. Click the strikethrough () icon at the bottom of the compose box.

1. Open the compose box.
2. To apply strikethrough formatting, use two tildes (~~) around the text: ~~text~~.
